Even if mesothelioma can be a contracted disease at an early age, symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 15 to 45 years after exposure to asbestos. Symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath and others due to the accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity are generally the basic tips that might draw your attention to this terrible disease. Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include swelling in the abdomen, sudden weight loss, pain due to accumulation in the stomach. Symptoms such as an intestinal obstruction, blood clotting, fever and anemia are those related to peritoneal mesothelioma. If mesothelioma has spread from the basic step to advanced stages, it is in other parts of the body other than the place of origin, these symptoms will obviously be compounded and cause more problems. The face and the neck may swell and begin to look distorted as well.
The pleural mesothelioma causes signs and symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs), fatigue, blood in cough or sputum and the hoarse cough. In advanced or severe cases, the patient may have already developed numerous tumors. Pneumothorax or lung collapse may also happen to the person suffering from pleural mesothelioma and can spread to other parts of the body as well. Tumors that affect the stomach do not show symptoms until they reach one of the last stages where it is almost impossible to retract. These symptoms include abdominal pain, excessive accumulation of fluid in the stomach, the unwanted masses in the stomach that you may be able to feel from outside if it became too large, your gut can cause obstructions and you can also lose a lot of weight suddenly.
However, in severe cases of the disease, other signs and symptoms may also be present, thrombophlebitis which is the result of blood clots in the veins, jaundice that is a yellowing of the eyes and skin, pleural effusion which is the blockage of fluid between the lungs and chest, low blood sugar level, disseminated intravascular coagulation, which causes severe bleeding in many organs, pulmonary embolism that is the coagulation of blood in the arteries of the lungs and severe ascites.
Mesothelioma does not necessarily mean extend to the bone, adrenal glands and brain as pleural tumors are found only on one side of the lungs. Similarly in the other two cases, tumors are generally limited to the abdomen or chest. However, the point is that the tumors in your system are not healthy therefore you need to check and diagnose when you suspect even a slight chance of their existence.
Mesothelioma is still in the process of being discovered later and all its symptoms are not yet final, but here we discussed the basic ones and you should consult a doctor if you think you need to get checked immediately.
